Caffeine- Coated

By Brian Richmond

The sugar from the overpriced frappe
Licks at the tapestries of my mouth
Infecting my mind and my heart
With the speed or the energizer bunny

Now I can’t think of anything
Except that one night in the cold
When my body froze to the bone
And I made love with you, inside your home

This frappe reminds me of your skin
And the way that I love your smell
My teeth ache in the same way
That my heart does for you

My heart hurts from the abundance
And there’s sugar in my teeth
My head hurts from the dependence
Of caffeine in me

Now that I think of it
I need you more than this overpriced cavity
The absence of you
Gives me worse aches than these shakes
