steel bars
steel guitars
hard faces
rough places
South side
Working Man’s pride
hearts of gold
by gates that closed.

bridges crumbled
people humbled
rusting tracks
weeds through cracks
empty seats
dead end streets
garbage scattered
glass shattered
none of it matters.
invisible people
invisible places
but who can ignore the look on their faces?
kids in squalor
stamps for dollars
crooked cops
fatal shots
lost souls
gang controlled
pushing baggies
pushing bodies
neighborhood commodities

too many dimes
spent on crime
it’s about time
to invest in minds
